Learning to count is an essential skill, and counting books are a great way to do it. But it’s important to have counting books that are worth reading — and, for that matter, worth buying. Here are some your kids will love.

It’s available as a board book, paperback, or hardcover, so you can choose according to the needs of your kids.

Chicka Chicka 1,2,3

For kids fascinated by dinosaurs, but the rhymes and pictures will tickle funny bones and make the numbers come to life for all kids.

Count the Princesses is not great literature, but it has an active counting question on each right-hand age. Turn the page and immediately see the answer in a very clear graphic way — it shows where all the options were, and which ones were the pink dresses, castles, and so on.

Octopuses Have Zero Bones: A Counting Book About Our Amazing World is a book about numbers. It’s still sort of a counting book, but it includes some very big numbers, as well as some surprising facts. Consider this a more advanced counting book for curious kids.
